Indian Languages Technology Research-Oriya (ILTR-Oriya)
is a Research and Development
(R & D) Centre for Language
Technology located at the Department
of Computer Science and Application, Utkal
University .
It undertakes R & D of broad categories of
varied and multiple Indian languages and provides efficient
technology solutions for these languages and major focal
disciplines R&D include Intelligent Document
Processing(OCR-Oriya),Natural Language Processing(NLP) and
Speech Processing and Cross Lingual Information Access(CLIA) . The centre is one out of twelve other
resource centres established by MIT, Government of India.
The OCR system provides a reliable and efficient technology
for Oriya document image recognition and understanding. The
approaches made guarantees very natural and humanistic art of
pattern perception. Under NLP section are Oriya Wordnet(OriNet),Trilingual Dictionary, Spell and Grammar
Checker , Morphological analyser which can help and
faciliatate other areas of NLP. The speech technology include
both text-to-speech(TTS) and Speech-to-text(STT). OCR system
integrated with TTS system and speech system can jointly help
blinds to hear the contents of a document.
Utkal University is one of the
leading premier universities of India having a rich set of
educational and cultural heritage. It is the 17th university of India. This University has 27
post graduate departments in which around 5 thousands study
for their Post Graduate, Ph.D. and Post Doctoral degrees etc.
Besides it has affiliated colleges which include Engineering,
Medical and Law discipline also.
