Natural
Language Processing (NLP) is a technique of
engineering languages through machine (computer) by which we
can overcome the language barrier and the difference between the man and
machine. To devlop asystem that understands and generates natural
language is one of the most challenging attempts in Artificial
Intelligence(AI).The system must
have thorough knowledge about the structure of the language including
what the words are, how they contribute to the meaning of the sentence
and to the context within which they are used. With this sincere motive
we have developed some basic information tools to facilitate human
machine interaction in Oriya language. These tools can be used for Oriya
language studies and research areas like Oriya Machine Translation (OMT),
Oriya Speech Processing and Understanding, Optical Character Recognition
(OCR) etc. Moreover, it can beintegrated with
innovative user products like Machine Translation, Word Processor, Spell
Checker and Thesaurus etc. Some of the major achievements in this area
that we have achieved, are building OMT, Ori-Net (Word-Net for Oriya),
Trilingual and Monolingual lexical resources, developing Parsers,
Morphological Analyser and Spell Checker for Oriya language. The current
activities in machine learning are semantics and syntactic based machine
translation, machine learning of morphological analyser, machine
learning of transfer grammar and transfer lexicon. Basic research
relating western linguistic theories with the theories in the Sanskrit
grammatical tradition is also carried out to achieve a concrete setting
of applications in the field of language technology. We have obtained
IPR for four of our products from the MHRD, Govt. of India in 2002. For
the product like Sanskrit Word-Net is in the pipeline for obtaining IPR.
we have devlop the follwing products.
